In 2022, the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China (NHC) issued 3 announcements (No. 1, 2022, No. 2, 2022, and No.5, 2022) for the approval of new food-related products (including "new food contact additives and resins"). A total of 38 new food-related products (including expanded use) are approved. Besides, from the website of NHC and China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA), a total of 31 new food contact resins and additives application were officially accepted and 19 food-related products (including expanded use) were issued for public comments.
On February 10, 2023, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) issued five food additives for public comment. This included two new food enzymes, one new food nutrition enhancer, one food additive with expanded scope, and one food nutrition enhancers with expanded scope and dosage. The deadline for public comments is March 8, 2023.
By the end of December 2022, the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China (NHC) issued three announcements (No. 1 of 2022, No. 2 of 2022, No. 5 of 2022) in the form of "Three New Foods" with 75 of products approved, including new food raw materials (novel food), new food additives and food-related products (new food contact substances). Among them, 32 kinds of new food additives (including expanded use) were approved.
On January 12, 2023, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) issued a public consultation on four new food raw materials passing the technical review of the CFSA Expert Review Committee. The deadline for public comments is February 12, 2023.

On October 28, 2022, two HMO products (2’-fucosyllactose and Lacto-N-neotetraose) of E. coli origin have passed the technical review of the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) Expert Review Committee and now open for public comments. In order to help enterprises understand the current situation of the industry and clarify the direction of application, CIRS Group will hold a webinar to introduce the correlation and difference between "new food raw materials" and "new food additives" (including ingredients produced by transgenic technology), and talk about the latest progress of hot ingredients such as "breast milk oligosaccharide (HMOs), β-nicotinamide single nucleotide (NMN)".
Since 2016, China has formally proposed to carry out the "three reductions and three health" action, advocating that citizens could eat less salt, less oil, and less sugar and maintain oral health, weight health and bones health”. To encourage "sugar reduction", several government functional departments have released related policy documents, these include: On June 24, 2019, the State Council issued the Opinions on the Implementation of the Healthy China Action, and the Healthy China Action (2019-2030) at the national level, which clearly proposing the strategic goal of "sugar reduction”. The National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China also released the Health Oral Action Plan (2019-2025), further proposing the goal of “sugar reduction”. China Beverage Health Consumption Forum released the White Paper on Sugar Reduction Action for Healthy China's Beverage and Food (2021), which advocates "sugar reduction" in beverages and food.

Comments can be made by September 16 2022. On 19 August 2022, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) issued 13 new food additives passing the technical review by the CFSA Expert Review Committee for public comments. These 13 substances include 11 new food nutrition enhancers and 2 food additives with expanded use.
